MRAC is very pleased to announce the publishing of its workbook
on how to build participation in your work. FROM MISSION TO MOTIVATION
was written with YOU in mind. Building personal relationships builds
audience. A clear understanding of relevant personal motivators
is essential to establish a strong foundation to build participation.
American Express, our financial partner in its development, writes
"Those nonprofit arts organizations that manage to prosper
despite drastic changes to the economic and social environment share
a secret: they plan well for their future. In fact, planning is
fundamental to your organizations well-being. Thats
why were pleased to offer this workbook in partnership with
the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council."
The Book
Targeting the small or mid-sized arts group, this workbook is designed
for use in self-guided learning or a facilitated workshop process
to help build consensus around audience development goals and strategies.
We will continue to host workshops on Building Participation, free
to our grantees, that will utilize the workbook. Any group that
attends a workshop will receive the workbook as a part of the training.
In addition, groups that are focusing projects around topics related
to Audience Development or Marketing should talk with our staff
about obtaining the workbook.

Reviews And Comments From Workshop Participants
"This publication has been incredibly helpful to us as we
move forward in
our 15th year to make our chorus stronger and more vital to the
communities
we serve. We are using the book as a guide as we move forward
with work to
strengthen our audiences, donors and volunteers, as well as providing
individual growth to our leadership and organization."
"I was thrilled today when I received "From Mission
to Motivation." I
will read it from cover to cover, especially since it has big
print and
a lot of colorful pictures & graphs. It's like a kids book
for
professionals. That's a huge compliment, by the way. The easier
anything can be to understand the better."
"Colorful graphics invite the use of this excellent planning
tool, and guide
the user through the thought process. Very useful to my community
leaders."
"A practical and jargon-free approach to audience development.
Invites
participation."
"I cant wait to go home and call together our staff
to brainstorm!"
"Excellently written and presented in a fashion that invites
my team to go
to work!"
"I just received the 'Mission to Motivation' manual. As
a retired
professional, with a PhD in marketing and consumer psychology,
I think this
is first rate. I have struggled all my life in the trenches with
the issues
you raise here with hundreds of not-for-profits. In my experience,
our
types of agencies rarely are strategically focused. You are exactly
right
in starting with mission and core values and moving from there
to strategic
thinking. I believe your manual will help many groups becoming
learning
organizations which are not afraid to plan, innovate and evaluate.
So
congratulations!"
